Background

In a dynamic environment and with increasing competition in all spheres of life, the management of St. Bakhita Siakago Girls High School has taken the initiative to change the strategic direction in order grow the school to the next level. This will realign the school to the Government’s vision 2030 and respond to the changing expectations of our stakeholders. It is our first formalized strategic plan and it is expected to help lead the school to a performance in line with its status as a proposed national school.

Brief history of the school

St. Josphine Bakhita Siakago High School started as a Harambee mixed Secondary school. In 1970, started as a single streamed girls’ boarding school. Between 1970 – 1972 the school offered KJSE, whereby in 1974, the pioneers sat for K.C.E. In 1976, the second stream was started until 1978 when the school was fully taken over by the National Government and upgraded into a provincial Girls’ school with two streams.

In 2011, the school acquired the third stream and acquired the name St. Josphine Bakhita Siakago Girls’. The school was upgraded to the National status in 2012 and in 2013, the first National class was admitted. The school is about 1km from Siakago market and about 28Km from Embu Town which is the headquarters of Embu County. The school has 25 classrooms, 8 dormitories, 1 Dining hall and Kitchen, 2 Laboratories (Physics and Biology), 1 complete Homescience Laboratory, 1 complete computer laboratory and 3 sanitation block (34 unit)

The school stands on a 35.5 acre piece of land. The acreage is used for tuition area, fields and livestock keeping.
The school land is fenced using chainlink and Perimeter wall dormitory side. The school has had 8 head teachers since inception:
1. Miss Jacinta M. Wamuyu 1970 - Dec 1970
2. Nina Maarbjerg 1971 - Dec 1972
3. Mrs. Valerian Njue 1973 - Dec 1975
4. Mrs. Priscah R. Njiru 1976 - Dec 1979
5. Mrs. Selina W. Muturi 1980 - May 1986
6. Mrs. Euphraith N. Ireri 1986 - Dec 2000
7. Mrs. Lucy M. Kagwithi 2001 - Dec 2017
8. Anne K. Mwangangi 2018 to date

From 1986 the headship was somewhat stable. This among other factors has enabled the school realize good students discipline and consistent good K.C.S.E results. In national examination the school has been performing very well over the last few years and quite a sizeable number of students have been proceeding to the various universities. The school has been upgraded to national school status.

Infrastructural development has also been going on with the continued school growth. Discipline has been quite good over the last few years. The school is sponsored by the Catholic Diocese of Embu with a properly nominated board of Management managing the school.

The school has been growing at a tremendous phase and it is for this reason that the school board found it necessary to prepare a strategic plan to act as a roadmap for the achievement of the vision and mission of the school. It will lead the school to:
• Improve academic performance.
• Point (focus) all the stakeholders towards one common direction – the main aims/targets of the school.
• Help management to ensure all employees work towards the school mission, aims, objectives and the school core values.
• Ensure everyone knows where we are going, and how we are going there.
• To ensure all areas of the school development get attention so that none is neglected.
• Develop and adopt common targets to be achieved within a given time frame, in this case five years.
